I Laughed & Cries

I merely got out of watching The Fine art Of Racing In The Rain

A seriously emotional movie for me, as I had to accept my beloved family unit dog Rocky, put down on Monday, I knew I would cry watching this, and I did.

It is not what you think it is. It is non a racing flick, nor is it a children picture well-nigh a mischievous dog, its almost the people and their relationships told through the eyes of the dog, voiced beautifully by Kevin Costner.

It has been 13 years since Milo Ventimiglia starred in Rocky Balbo, yet every fourth dimension he smiles that crooked smile, I'm reminded of Sly. Amanda Seyfried puts in a touching operation whilst Martin Donovan is simply a guy you will detest.

This is a movie that is all middle, I laughed and cried watching it.

True to source material; Very good movie

I read this book several years ago, and I call back crying like a baby in the Charlotte airdrome on a layover as I read the last two chapters. Tears of sorrow combined with tears of joy streamed down my face, and this little quondam lady came over to me and said, "Honey, are you ok?" I smiled and simply said, "This book is and so good!"

Flash forrad to the flick, and I literally almost started crying at the very kickoff scene. I concur the volume in loftier regard, and the opening shot of Enzo just brought back and then many adept memories of the book. Equally I watched the picture, I felt the producers/managing director stayed very true to the bulletin of the source material. Practice I know scene-by-scene if they stayed true? No, I do not. However, the overall beginning to cease conveys the major events that happen, and without a uncertainty, it was such an incredible struggle not to burst into tears during the final moments of the movie. I was not alone in this equally I heard many sniffles in the audience. It was almost sold out on a Tuesday matinee!

The overall message is perseverance, love, loyalty, and existence true to yourself. The story of Enzo is a heartwarming story, and I can't recommend this book and picture show enough.

A box of tissues is required.

I didn't know anything about the film before watching it. As soon as I saw it was well-nigh the life of a dog 'Enzo', beautifully narrated past Kevin Costner past the way, I looked at my wife and told her I will probably weep with this movie. When information technology's well-nigh animals I have difficulties not to cry when something 'happens' to the animal, and that even though I know it's just a movie. And oh boy did I cry with this picture, and so did my wife. At one indicate we were both balling without ending. Just thinking almost it makes me desire to weep again, and that'south a day afterward. It's the kind of movie that reminds you previous dogs y'all owned, or the dogs yous have at this moment. I watched information technology with Lou, my lovely poodle that I rescued, sitting in my lap, and Jef, my Andalucian waterdog, cuddling next to me. Y'all can't help it to compare things from the film with your actual life and pets. The story itself is not flawless, but it doesn't matter as it is likewise beautiful to stand still at those niggling imperfections. The relationship and countless dear between Milo Ventimiglia and his dog Enzo is something a lot of dog owners will recognize. I dear my dogs so much it hurts only thinking one day I volition have to let them go, only knowing they had a good life eases the pain. The Art Of Racing In The Rain is a picture for brute lovers, a movie where you will need a box of tissues. I loved it, but I wonder if I could watch it over again.

1st time I ever felt the desire to write a picture show review!

I have never reviewed a movie before simply having seen this film on its opening twenty-four hours, not the kind of picture show I'm normally attracted to (I booked it really for my married woman every bit it was our hymeneals anniversary yesterday) I was then surprised how much I really enjoyed it! Information technology has something for everyone to connect with. Beautifully put together and performed. But be warned, this is i moving movie. Even the toughest of guys volition need the Kleenex nearby. My face was wet! Just as yous have managed to hold back i tear-jerker response, forth comes some other. A existent emotional roller-coaster which leaves you in awe at the cease. All-time real movie I've seen in a long time. Kevin was amazing. So was Amanda and Milo. Existent characters with real feeling. You should all be so proud of this. My friend read the book and said information technology had the same affect. Conspicuously yous have done the book due justice. Just Fabulous!

Poignant & funny. This movie is a gift.

My thoughts:

The Art of Racing in the Rain is beautifully and sensitively directed by Simon Curtis, who deftly orchestrates the poignant moments with sense of humour.

Milo Ventimiglia's "This is Us" fans will recognize and love his Denny Swift; he was perfectly cast in this function.

I especially beloved how the movie showed the development of Eve & Enzo'due south relationship.

Kevin Costner is not the first person I'd recollect of to be the inner phonation of a dog, just he does a bully job.

This motion-picture show is a souvenir to anyone who'southward always owned or loved a dog.

Loved information technology, thank y'all for such an amazing film!

I knew I would love this pic, I've been a canis familiaris lover my whole life just this story wasn't only about a dog named Enzo but rather about life and all the ups and downs we experience, the highs and lows, losing loved ones, difficult relationships...and through it all dogs are ever there for us to provide comfort, a friendly bawl, to lend a paw, to make us grinning even on our toughest days. I'll never know whether they pick us or we pick them it'south only one of those things that'southward meant to be and you find each other along the way. They don't live as many years as we do, merely they live a total life while they are here and each 1 has a story. Thank yous for telling Enzo'south story.

Perfect (almost)

This was probably the most perfect film I have ever seen. The story was splendid, the actors were perfect and the music was perfect, especially the John Fogerty song at the end. The but flaw I institute was when the grandmother said in courtroom she only said what the grandfather had told her to say. Wouldn't he have been arrested at that betoken for witness tampering. Withal, I rarely requite a film or show a ten without wondering later if I should have. This one, I have no second thoughts.

Good Adaptation, But Watered Down

Warning: Spoilers

Alarm: SPOILERS (for novel and movie)

So, prior to seeing the movie, I read he volume by Garth Stein. I adored the novel and even added it to my list of best books. It's witty, deep, and emotionally powerful. The pic carried the same weight every bit the novel. It was charming, sad, and amusing the whole way through. The cinematography and editing was wonderful, with just minimal awkward cuts and continuities (funny plenty, the dog had the least continuity errors). The casting and acting were also tremendous as the actors were perfect for their roles and held the same weight equally how I pictured them in the book. One aspect of the production that actually surprised me was the special furnishings, which were excellent. There were a few moments where in that location were CGI sequences due to hallucination and metaphorical double exposure of memories going through Enzo'southward mind. They looked excellent.

However, I have gripes with the film. I loved the book and expected the motion-picture show to omit parts of the book but they took out the incorrect parts. A few minor examples are of Denny playing video games to go a feel for the racetracks before he really drives on them, a scene where the Zebra was essentially molesting the other blimp animals (it was inverse to ripping them apart), and some aspects of Denny struggling with booze. These things were missed but practise not make or break the picture.

What makes or breaks the film is removing the unabridged subplot of a semi-incestual false allegation of kid molestation. In the novel, Denny is going on a road trip across the state and kindly takes his wife'due south niece forth with him as she is going to a schoolhouse in the same direction. The niece is xv-years old and has a huge beat out on Denny and mistakes his kindness for flirting. One night while in a motel, she takes his clothes off while he's sleeping and gets naked herself. She attempts to have sex with him but he wakes up before anything could happen, shuts it down, and yells at her. His scorning isn't necessarily as well harsh though. He has some sentiment in existence cold merely she is and so upset and hurt that she refuses to take the situation. Afterwards, after Denny'south wife dies, the grandparents try and gain custody of Denny's daughter. Soon, they detect out about the incident in the motel, only from the perspective of the niece, who spins information technology around to make it seem like Denny made moves on her. The grandparents use this equally leverage and Denny is accused of molesting a child, thus not beingness able to have custody of his kid. This subplot was replaced in the movie by Denny accidentally knocking the grandfather over and beingness sued for physical harassment. This change is and then detrimental to the ability of the story, because in the novel, Denny tries to go to his wife's funeral merely is kicked out and forced to watch the anniversary from the peak of a hill. He'due south seen equally a pedophile and treated like a villain by many and he can't even nourish his wife's funeral. At this point, Denny slips into an alcoholic low and becomes very low and broken. This is much more powerful considering the circumstances and in the film, it seems like Denny's depression is every bit significant as a mood swing, especially every bit this moment in his life is rushed in the motion picture and resolved very quickly. Irresolute this aspect of the picture actually watered it down and made it family-friendly, which means the rating is PG instead of PG-thirteen or R, which means more people can see it and more coin can exist made. Information technology's a very commercialized or diluted decision and whether it was for money or not, it makes the story less critical and more standardized. This false accusation story isn't told entirely often and information technology'south a difficult and deep problem to bargain with. It should be perused and analyzed more than simply instead of talking about hard topics or doing something different, we're given a situation where a man's life is almost ruined for accidentally knocking someone over. This makes the flick lack substance and makes the book actually important. I understand that the film is an accommodation, a dissimilar account of the story, and a new perspective. So, of course, at that place will be changes. I too understand that dealing with minors sexually in a motion picture is not piece of cake and that this topic may deter more than people from seeing information technology. However, this modify makes me come across the pic every bit a good movie and the book as an excellent volume. If the filmmakers value profit and a wider audience over quality and critical themes, and then and so be it; I'll stick with the book.

Domestic dog Owners, Bring Your Tissues

The Art of Racing in the Rain is ane of those films that rips your heart out of your chest, dangles it in front of your confront, and ultimately gives it back to you lot. It is a very faithful adaptation of the original novel, with some changes that I personally thought were for the better. Milo Ventimiglia and Kevin Costner bring their A games to this film. You can feel a very strong connection between their characters Denny and Enzo the dog respectively. Though this film isn't the most groundbreaking out there, it is a very well-made, heartfelt retelling of an incredibly heartwarming story.

Uncomplicated, withal sweet journey of cocky-discovery told through a unique perspective.

I hadn't read the book that it is based on, so but armed with the knowledge of a short synopsis, I really didn't know what to expect. It was actually quite good.

I idea listening to Kevin Costner drone on for a couple hours as a dog's inner monologue would be tedious, simply the nuggets of wisdom peppered with the occasional witticism provided ample amusement. I often felt like I was watching the "Thoughts of Canis familiaris" Twitter account played out in cinematic form. I admittedly loved both Milo Ventimiglia and Amanda Seyfried in this. The girl was also played especially well by Ryan Kiera Armstrong. The relationships between themselves and also with Eve'southward (Seyfried) parents was maybe a bit banal at times, but overall was still believable and endearing - although I felt similar hitting the dad with my car at several points.

Subsequently, I overheard several people tell the studio rep that they hadn't expected the moving picture to be a "tear-jerker", and the sobs coming from the gentleman seated adjacent to me seemed to ostend that. Yet, I found the story to not be overly sorrowful or sad, but inspirational. A guide, if you will, for how to become an exemplary person shown through the filter of a domestic dog's conventionalities that by gaining this cognition he'll be reincarnated as a human in his side by side life. (I know it sounds silly, but information technology was really quite poignant.)

This is Us + The Dog who knows likewise much

Enzo (Kevin Costner) is a sick old dog. He recounts his life with his race car driver primary Denny Swift (Milo Ventimiglia) who marries Eve (Amanda Seyfried) and they have a daughter named Zoƫ. The family faces trials and tribulations with Eve's parents (Kathy Baker, Martin Donovan). This is a real tear-jerker. It'southward basically Milo doing another 'This is Us'. The difference is the constant narration from Costner as a dog. The thought is that the dog is following a Mongolian conventionalities that dogs can reincarnate into human being beings. That's where the author falters in logic and in drama. It would exist much more compelling to have the dog not empathise equally much as he understands in the picture show. It would help for Enzo to slice together the story without so much noesis. The dog knows too much. Information technology'southward non logical and information technology detracts from the drama anyways. Otherwise, this is smashing for domestic dog lovers and melodrama lovers alike.

Enzo Deserves Better Than This

I will see just about whatsoever dog movie that gets released, and that includes the manipulative ones. The Art of Racing in the Rain both nails the essential qualities of the best of dog movies, but it does veer into melodramatic blandness in the second half, only to be saved past brilliantly poignant concluding moments. One of the film's main faults is that it never gets yous to truly care about the dog's (Enzo) relationship to his human companions, mostly because they are some of the worst owners in the history of picture palace, which is where you observe a expert chunk of the manipulative attribute of the story. But if there has always been perfect casting, it'southward Kevin Costner equally Enzo. Enzo is easily one of the best dogs in moving-picture show, and that'south worth watching.

Watch it for the good male child

Movies like these live or dice by the canis familiaris. Luckily, this moving picture has a terrific doggo at the eye of its story and is narrated perfectly by Kevin Costner. Enzo is by far the virtually interesting character in the moving picture and is just so dang ambrosial. Yous'll get your heartstrings tugged at frequently, but most of it is pretty good drama and handled well. Needless to say there are a lot of cliches in a picture like this, but you can overlook them considering it's such a sweetness and heartfelt story.

Love and Loyalty of Mans Best Friend

Loved this movie from the very beginning frame to the very last. If you love a good story of love and inspiration. Y'all will love this film. Destined to be a true classic. Costner might exist the first to win a Oscar for his vocalism of Enzo. Bring some tissue a tearjerker of the extreme. Soundtrack was superb and perfect.

The humans let the squad down

If you're here for the beautiful doggo action (like I'1000 certain 99 out 100 watchers are), The Art of Racing in the Pelting will satisfy your needs for four-legged goodness but in adapting Garth Stein'southward source novel, proven screenwriter Marker Bomback and managing director Simon Curtis struggle to engage with the human being drama that eats away at far too much of this well-shot films run-time.

Racing is most certainly not a film for those that find dogs nothing more than excrement producing nuisances but for canine fans, the glories of seeing photogenic young golden pup Enzo go an even more adorable wise best friend to Milo Ventimiglia's far besides kind to be realistic wannabe racing commuter Denny, will be a sight for sore eyes, fabricated even more appealing past the fact Enzo is here, through internal monologue, voiced past Mr. America himself Kevin Costner.

Without a shadow of a doubt, Enzo and Costner are the stars of the testify, with the molding of real life pups and Costner's instantly recognizable American drawl creating an extremely likable centrepiece for the moving picture, that sees Enzo fall into an unfortunate set of circumstances as Denny faces battles in his personal life revolving around his marriage and love with Amanda Seyfried's Eve, his young daughter Zoe (played past Ryan Kiera Armstrong) and his upwards and down human relationship with Eve's unlikeable parents Maxwell and Trish, played generically by Martin Donovan and Kathy Bakery.

You lot wish Bomback and Curtis had focused more of their tale effectually Enzo as you can't help simply feel in adapting and irresolute Stein's source material, that human moments in the moving-picture show feel both lethargic, boring and predictable with not a lot for us every bit a viewer to latch onto whenever Enzo is pushed to the side and the generic and lifeless homo drama takes over the spotlight.

You're constantly feeling as though you should be caring more for the plight of Denny and his desire to be a proficient husband, father and race car commuter but when all is said and done, his unproblematic and likable interactions with his best friend is what makes the film shine in parts and would've made the picture far more than special had they been given more than fourth dimension to evolve and mature before our very eyes.

With the homo elements letting this film downward, Racing feels very similar to recent doggy adventures such every bit A Canis familiaris's Purpose and A Dog's Way Home, becoming a film with cute and centre-warming moments but one that tin't help overcome the fact it's too concerned about the generic people components to work as one cohesive and memorable whole.

Final Say -

Not without its moments and certain to please those seeking canis familiaris-centric goodness, The Fine art of Racing in the Rain threatens at times to become something special just is held dorsum frequently by a fairly lame plot and some even more ho-hum humans.

A great picture for a contemptuous historic period.

Alarm: Spoilers

In this fourth dimension of snarkiness, Twitter wars and general miserableness betwixt people, in walks a movie brimming with decency yet splendidly entertaining. Don't read reviews or recaps of this movie.....just go see information technology. Milo longlastname from This Is Us is very good, and Amanda Seyfried from the ABBA movies is beautiful every bit a push. Kathy Baker from the Jesse Stone movies is just phenomenal. Her performance is the explosive that sends this movie into orbit.

The magic was not totally lost on me

I should preface this review past saying that,based on the rave reviews of friends (and strangers), I looked frontward to seeing this flick, then, it has a faithful fan base who were of the opinion that the moving-picture show full justice to the book. The story was interesting (I was forewarned that tissues might exist required). I truly believe that there is not some other thespian that better portrays the complete, self-sacrificing devotion of a man for a adult female than does Milo Ventimiglia (I've believed in him since Jessie in GILMORE GIRLS). Amanda Seyfried is a harder sell for me, though, so that prejudice may have soured the love story for me somewhat. I did, however, learn a lot almost racing and driving. The author certainly knew his stuff and was skillful in spinning it's metaphors. The love of a homo and the devotion of a dog were winsome. The treachery and heartbreak were moving, so the magic was non totally lost on me. I requite this film a 7 (practiced) out of ten, and if you demand further encouragement to meet it, my bookish friend has told me, "Nancy, I would give it 11/10! I went to see it again. For me, information technology was nearly Enzo, the domestic dog who wanted to be "people" and the incredible bond between dogs and their families." So, at that place you have information technology! {Drama}

Casablanca it is not, BUT...

... every at present then, whether we volition admit it or not, we all demand to watch such a motion-picture show. If all you lookout man are Christopher Nolan and Ingmar Bergman films, you will eventually find yourself staring burnished eyed into space, drinking heavily, and wondering, in the words of the 70s band Chicago - "Does anybody really know what time it is?".

Information technology's the story of Denny, an average Joe with a rather unique occupation - teacher of race machine driving and an aspiring race car driver himself. What makes the story even more unique is the viewpoint - a story told in flash back by Denny'southward domestic dog Enzo as is he is dying of old historic period in Denny's arms, starting from the time Denny adopted him every bit a puppy, to Denny's marriage to Eve, to the nascency of their daughter, and everything that came in betwixt and later on.

Kevin Costner does a skilful chore of narrating for Enzo. The pup makes the movie, and the actors don't try to get in the mode. Information technology is all almost loyalty, determination, grieving, fear of abandonment, and friendship. But I practice disagree with some reviewers here. I don't think I'd let a child nether x run into this. Information technology gets pretty heavy at points. And a stuffed zebra has a scene that is every bit surreal as the Twilight Zone episode I saw equally a kid with a bunch of mannequins calling out "Marsha!" to a terrorized woman locked in a department store at night. I saw that over 50 years agone and it nevertheless scares me. But I digress.

I'd recommend this when you simply want a watch a film with admirable characters acting admirably in response to the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. Merely there is one hissable villain simply to give the motion-picture show a little balance. I'd recommend information technology.

New favorite movie

This is seriously my new favorite pic. You know when you read a book and you picture the whole story? This film is exactly like the volume and the interim, specially the dog, was so well done. To come across a dog deed and show equally much emotions as this one did blew my heed. The story is amazing and this movie the best I've seen in a while.

Anyways jokes bated this is the perfect dog and story driven movie! Beyond well written throughout with clever dialogue. You'll express joy, cry a lot, fifty-fifty say wtf, and 1 thing you lot won't do is feel gypped at all. This is better than any dog movie you could ever encounter and amidst one of the all-time sport stories always! I don't actually read much but I am tempted to find an audible version of the source novel or something similar, it's a best seller after all.

Recommended Viewing for the Entire Family...and the Canis familiaris!!!

Alert: Spoilers

"The Art of Racing in the Pelting" is worth the price of admission for the vocalisation of Kevin Costner, speaking the imagined dialogue of the ambrosial dog Enzo. It does non take long for the audience to come to take Enzo as a full-fledged people person, due to Costner sensitive readings.

While the focus of the film on the sport of motorcar racing may exist somewhat of a turnoff to audiences, the scenes themselves were made credible, especially by the role player playing the office of Denny. The graphic symbol may accept been a piddling too perfect both on and off the race rail. But the actor was completely convincing as a race car driver.

The romantic side of the film was nicely portrayed in the human relationship of Denny and his wife Eve. While the grandfather was the most malevolent of the characters, he was counterbalanced by the kind grandmother. Her star plow in the courtroom may have been the best scene in the picture show.

But Oscar for this film goes to Enzo and the mellifluous sound of Costner's voice that brings to life the nobility of the creature and how there will be a special place in heaven (or globe) for his gentle soul.
